IL Comprehensive Plan

Goal: Half of all majors will provide definition and catalogue material for IL for inclusion in 2007-08 catalogue: departments will specifiy where IL goals will be met and how these will be assessed.

IL in the disciplines: Why?

  • Further students' learning by infusing IL into their major
  • Provides depth & interdisciplinary specificity
  • Library faculty and classroom faculty need common language: we all benefit, especially students, from deeper understanding of one another's area of expertise.

IL in the disciplines: How?

Don't reinvent the wheel!

Look what has been done already...Resources from ACRL:

Follow this step-by-step process to insure IL is infused into your discipline:

(L=responsibility of Librarian  F=responsibility of Faculty)

  • Review goals of department, associations, and accrediting bodies (L)
  • Compare with ACRL standards (L)
  • Find common language (L/F)
  • Include IL as written departmental goal (L/F)

  • Identify course(s) in which to implement IL outcomes (F)

Is IL a written objective for the course?

  • Review syllabi and existing assignments (L/F)

Do syllabi/assignments clearly articulate expected IL outcomes?

               Could assignments be revised?

                    Could new assignments be added?
